PostSubject: Basic Skeleton   Thu Jul 19, 2012 8:53 pm

I find that when drawing, just grabbing a pencil and going for it never seems to work out well (if you have the ability to do that, lucky you!!) I find that the human body, as beautiful and wondrous as it is, is a pain to try and draw.

For the longest time, my heads were too big, or my limbs were too long. And don't even get me started on hands and feet!

The thing I learned to utilize to help my artistic abilities was to use a basic skeleton, and no I don't mean this type of skeleton!

Don't know what that is? Never fear! Here is a picture:

Many artists use some variation of this skeleton to help them figure out how the human body will look. It will help you figure out which way body parts will go, just how long your legs should be, or how big the head is on the shoulders.

It takes practice to get the skeleton down, and it might take a long time till you've figured out all the proportions. However, it is a very useful tool in drawing, and it will help out with other aspects of drawing as well (such as perspective and poses).
